From the artist:

When I first heard Glenn Gould playing the piano, I was instantly inspired not only to find more of his recordings, but also to explore his unique personality.  The more I learned, the more interested I became in his story, as if I had uncovered a mysterious treasure. 

Glenn Gould never ceases to captivate my musical and artistic imagination.  As a result, I was inspired to create these two paintings.  One captured outside in nature and the other of Gould being lost in the pleasures of music at his piano in the middle of the night.  

Shoshana Kertesz is a visual artist from Hungary currently living in New Jersey, USA. Many of her paintings are inspired by music.

Special guests of State Street Global Markets and the Quebec Government Office in New York enjoyed a reception in the historic Rohatyn Club room before entering Weill Performance Hall for Marika's performance. Marika played a fantastic program with dazzling interpretations of Bach, Schubert, Schumann and Ravel.  Her polished artistry continues to inspire audiences and honour the Glenn Gould legacy.

The display will include images of the legendary pianist and the actual prize sculpture created by Canadian artist Ruth Abernethy for presentation to laureates of The Glenn Gould Prize, the Foundation’s signature activity.

Sometimes referred to as “the Nobel Prize of the Arts,” The Glenn Gould Prize is one of the world’s most exclusive honours.  The Prize pays tribute to Glenn Gould’s legacy both as an artist and an innovator in communications technology, by recognizing rare individuals whose lifework enriches the human condition through the arts. Laureates include Lord Yehudi Menuhin, Oscar Peterson, Yo-Yo Ma, Dr. José Antonio Abreu (founder of the visionary El Sistema Program of free music education and orchestras for poor children in Venezuela) and most recently, Leonard Cohen.

The evening was a magical experience in a truly exquisite setting. Starting with a preconcert reception in the gardens accompanied by a Venezuelan folk trio, guests moved into the intimate concert hall for stunning performances of repertoire ranging from the baroque era to the 20th century.

Representing both New Brunswick and Canada, the NBYO are proud ambassadors of Canadian music. On Tuesday, the orchestra performed in the Gala Awards Ceremony of the SCL Festival & Competition at the famed Golden Hall of the Musikverein. From the stage that is home to the Vienna Philharmonic, the NBYO gave the finale performance of the evening.  Patrons flew from their seats with a loud standing ovation—the only standing "o" of the night. 

Congratulations again to the New Brunswick Youth Orchestra!
